Are you a Spectrum customer using an Amazon FireStick? You’ve likely been frustrated by trying to install the Spectrum app onto your FireStick.
You’ve probably seen one or two tutorials on the internet that will show you how to install it.
They didn’t work.
Spectrum gives you access over 50,000 TV shows and movies on-demand, along with about 250 live TV channels.
Amazon devices are not compatible with the Spectrum TV app. You can also sideload the app, similar to SkyTV Go. However, it will detect if it is running on an unsupported device, and return an error message such as this.
What is Spectrum App and on what devices?
This article will answer both of these questions. In case the Spectrum TV app is updated, I will show you how to sideload it on your FireStick. Let me end with a quick overview of the app.
Let’s get started.
When it was launched, the Spectrum app was not compatible with Roku boxes (except for the first generation). It is currently available for several devices. The FireStick and native apps are not compatible.
- Apple TV (OS 12 and higher)
- iPhone 5S and newer
- iPad Air/Pro 5th generation or newer
- iPad Mini 2 and newer
- iPod Touch 6th gen or newer
- Android smartphones/tablets that run Android 5.0 or higher
- Samsung Smart TVs (2012 model and higher)
- Xbox One
No Amazon Fire TV OS devices currently support Spectrum TV, as stated on their official support page.
Sideloading the Spectrum TV App on FireStick:
This section will show you how to install Spectrum TV on a FireStick/Fire TV device.
This will install the app as I have already mentioned, but when you attempt to open it, you’ll get an error message stating that the device is not supported. Unfortunately, there is no way around this.
Open the Downloader app, search for “spectrum APKmirror”
My favorite app for sideloading APK files onto my FireSticks, FireSticks, and Android TV devices is the Downloader app. Check out my tutorial if you aren’t familiar with the Downloader App.
The built-in web browser is one of the best things about the Downloader App. Click Go to navigate to a website or pull up search results from Google.
It is searching for the Spectrum TV listing on APKMirror. This popular site allows you to download APK files.
Click on the Spectrum TV APK entry to continue.
This will take you to the app detail page at APKMirror.com.
Scroll down to see the most recent APK files.
APKMirror will often have multiple versions of each APK file that you can download.
You will most likely want to use the latest version. However, there are instances when an older version might be more compatible with your system.
To continue, click the download icon located on the right-hand corner of the screen.
This will start the download process. The Downloader app will start the installation process as soon as the file has been downloaded.
To continue, click Install.
After a few seconds, Spectrum TV is installed on your FireStick and you receive a message box advising you that it’s ready for launch.
It can be launched directly from the message box or from your App Library in your FireStick’s main menu.
The Spectrum TV app icon doesn’t show up because we sideloaded it. In my case, there were several apps that I sideloaded on the FireStick. I had to guess which icon was correct.
Regardless of whether you open Spectrum TV from the App Library or directly in the message box, the device unsupported error message will appear as soon as the app is opened.
Spectrum app allows you to view live and on-demand content via your TV or mobile device. The TV app is the best value in entertainment if you have a Spectrum bundle.
There are three Spectrum apps. Each one has a different function. The Spectrum mobile app allows users to access their account information. The My Spectrum app allows you to access your wireless network, pay bills, and troubleshoot.
The third, Spectrum TV app, is worth mentioning. You can enjoy multiple features that will enhance your viewing experience.
Live TV and On Demand Content
This app’s main feature is its ability to give you access local channels such as ABC, NBC and CBS. You can also watch sports and live news. Sign in to choose a default channel which will display on your home screen.
To help you navigate the channels and provide helpful tips for new users, a TV guide appears on the screen.
You don’t have to watch live TV if you are bored. There is an online library that allows you to catch up on all the latest TV series and movies.
The Spectrum app offers access to many live channels and a DVR function. This allows you to pause, rewind or fast-forward live TV. This convenient feature allows you to record content while you’re away so you can enjoy it later.
You can tag your favorite channels to add them to your favorites list. This will allow you to skip scrolling through approximately 250 stations in order to find your favorite options.
Spectrum has added a channel search function that makes it easier to find your favorite program. There is the channel number search. However, you can filter by network or category.
You can also search for the actor, sports team or title to narrow down your results if you are unsure of what channels are showing.
